We are now able to register a block of routable IP addresses and an Autonomous System (AS/BGP) for you, which will be assigned to you regardless of which operator you are connected to! RIPE NCC is one of the five regional internet registries that manage the distribution of internet resources and coordinate activities aimed at globally supporting the functioning of the Internet. What are RIPE addresses, and who needs them? When you connect to an operator, you are usually allocated one or several IP addresses necessary for your internet operations. However, when changing operators or expanding your business, you'll find that these IP addresses, issued by your operator, are entirely dependent on them. The concern is not just that you could be disconnected from the network if needed, but primarily that the routing of these addresses depends solely on your internet operator. In the event of a failure in the operator's equipment, access to resources hosted on their addresses will be impossible, even if you have arranged a backup channel with another ISP. Transitioning from one operator to another would require completely changing your addresses and returning the old ones. For large or even medium-sized hosts, such a change could lead to the re-registration of thousands of domains, etc. Once you obtain a block of IP addresses for your needs, you won’t have to change addresses when switching channels or changing internet operators. They will be yours. What is an Autonomous System (AS)? An Autonomous System (AS) is a fundamental component of the network. By obtaining AS status, you gain the ability to manage the routing of your networks on the Internet independently. For example, you can receive significantly cheaper local traffic from another operator, become a full participant in traffic exchange points, and build automatic backup channels. You can have as many upstream internet operators as you want, and to make your resources inaccessible, all their channels would need to be blocked simultaneously! What is BGP? BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) is the main dynamic routing protocol on the Internet. Its primary goal is to reduce transit traffic. Local traffic either originates or terminates in an Autonomous System (AS); otherwise, it is considered transit traffic. Many nodes pass significant transit traffic, which limits the capabilities of direct clients of the node. Typically, this traffic is not compensated. Administrators can significantly restrict or even eliminate such transit traffic within the BGP protocol.
